People usually liked Jared, even though they rarely knew, or even thought about, why that was so. He was a pleasant young man. He held the door when he reached it before someone else, had good hygiene, didn’t kill people who hadn’t earned it, never made light of someone’s misfortune and offered to help in any way he could, and he talked to his mother every night. He wore the same charcoal suit to work every day, excepting the green golf-shirt he’d wear on Fridays. He’d always offer a sympathetic ear, usually with the added bonus of sound advice, and he never abused a person’s trust with the information he was given. In short, he was a great guy. Jared was indeed a great guy.
