Sanity and the Natural World
I flit myself from limb to limb
quite happily insane,
I call to you, my prisoner
of door and windowpane,
You look outside and scowl again
as if I caused you pain,
Don music artifact on ears
to make my call in vain,
You think yourself superior
your evidence the brain,
I say to you, oh that is true
but do you love the rain,
Do come outside and dance with me
out in the fields of cane,
My calls ignored with vehemence
because you think you’re sane.

I really love this one, Nolan. It’s too bad your inner critic knaws at your ankles so much that you don’t try to get published? And…even Stephen King and lots of other well known writers were rejected, and they’re super well known and loved for their words. Your words are some of the best I’ve read in a long while. This particular piece reminds me of living in Conway…I was soooo crazy and free, had to tone down with the arrival of a baby…but…even tho I’ve filtered so many parts of myself for the children’s sake…I soooo miss those days. And…my kids and I DO play out in the rain. There’s something magical in the rain, and in a strong, cool wind…being with the children…Magic is all around us, and the sad thing is sooo many people fail to realize it. Everyone in some way is insane, but…too many of us want to filter ourselves or try to act “normal” all because of fear…fear of something…anything. I ramble. I’m sorry. Main point: Beautiful piece. Absolutely beautiful. U should start loving the children you birth from your mind as well because even if you don’t get rich, and I know u wouldn’t care about that, but…still…others could read those words and think something similar on some level to what I’m thinking and feeling now after reading this. I’m still going on and one. I’m soooo sorry. Good work, Hobbs.
